Pequots Bounce Eagles in Season Opener, 5-1

New London, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team defeated Daniel Webster 5-1 in their home opener Wednesday afternoon in New London, CT.

The Pequots (2-0-1) jumped ahead 16:38 into the contest on a cross from Chris McKinnel (Branford, CT) in tight traffic to T.J. Smith (Wallkill, NY). Niko Papathanasiou (Quaker Hill, CT) added two quick strikes 10 seconds apart in the 33rd for a 3-0 lead at the break.

Joshua Griffo put the hosts ahead, 4-0 off a throw-in from Adam Deltgen at 51:09. Alex Deltgen added the fifth score at 57:35.

Ben Sisco (Quabbin, MA) helped the Eagles (0-1) avert the shutout in the 72nd minute.

Mitchell hosts Becker Saturday at 1:00 PM. Daniel Webster hosts 22nd ranked Norwich in their home and GNAC opener Saturday at Noon.
