Albertus Shuts Out Eagles, 6-0

J.J. Torres (Trumbull, Conn.) notched a natural hat trick leading Albertus Magnus past Daniel Webster, 6-0 in a GNAC men’s soccer match up Sunday afternoon.

Torres potted two goals in the first half and added a third early in the second as the Falcons (3-3-1 / 1-0 GNAC) kept the host Eagles (0-4, 0-2 GNAC) winless in 2006.

Torres notched unassisted tallies in the 10th and 21st minutes for a 2-0 Falcons lead at the half. He later converted a Derek Delucia (Hamden, Conn.) pass play in the 59th for a 3-0 advantage.

Miro Zembrzuski (Ansonia, Conn.) upped the lead to 4-0 in the 63rd on a pass from Dan Dias. Dias later converted an unassisted tally in the 67th. Anthony Sallati (Trumbull, Conn.) closed out the scoring in the 73rd heading home a 15-yard shot off a scramble.

Gerald O’Connor (Hamden, Conn.) finished with three saves over 71 minutes, yielding to Alfredo Perez (Norwalk, Conn.), who faced one shot.

Craig Van Tuyl (Buffalo, N.Y.) took the loss, finishing with seven saves while Gregory Phillips (Wilmington, Mass.) added one save in relief.

Daniel Webster begins a four-game road trip Monday at New England College in a 4:00 p.m. start. Albertus travels to Eastern Connecticut State Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
