Pilgrims Upend Eagles, 5-1
Henniker, NH - The Daniel Webster men's soccer team fell to intrastate rival
New England College in a non-conference match up, 5-1 Monday afternoon at
Pilgrim Field.
NEC (2-4) scored three times in the first 19 minutes to keep the Eagles
winless (0-5) in 2006. Pilgrim senior captain John Bavota (F, Tewksbury, MA)
netted scores at 7:56 and 11:11 of the first session while Jordan Colonese
added another at 18:51, to build a 3-0 lead at the half.
Jon Fortier (So., M, Southington, CT) upped the lead to 4-0 4:59 into the
second frame, while Evan Jones (So., D, Providence RI) made it 5-0 in the
64th minute. Dan Nagle (Fr., F, Norton, MA) helped DWC avert the shutout
bid, converting in the 81st for the 5-1 final.
NEC out-shot the Eagles 38-11. Kris Corwin had
seven saves for the Pilgrims, while Greg Van Tuyl finished with 19 saves for
DWC.
The Eagles continue game two of a four-game road trip Wednesday when they
visit Mount Ida at 3:30 p.m.
