Mountaineers Tip Eagles in OT, 3-2
Ryan Heron (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored his second goal of the day 7:06
into overtime to give Southern Vermont a 3-2 victory over host Daniel Webster
Sunday in men’s soccer action.
Heron, who had tied the game to send it to the extra session with 16:36 to
play in regulation, helped the Mountaineers (2-7) halt a three game skid and
kept the Eagles (0-10) winless.
Ghalib Samai put the visitors ahead 4:10 into the contest, heading home a
Jason Zuber (Meriden, Conn.) cross pass.
Daniel Webster tied it in the 16th on a Dan Nagle (Norton, Mass.) penalty kick
and the teams went the half tied at one. DWC took the lead in the 65th on a
Kieran Thorne (Nashua, N.H.) 10 yarder from in front.
Steve Runyon (Hopatcong, N.J.) earned the win on goal for SVC, finishing with
eight saves, outdueling DWC netminder Greg Phillips (Wilmington, Mass.), who
finished with seven stops.
DWC edged Southern Vermont in shots, 22-21.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they host Framingham State at 3:00
