Eagles Earn Split With Mount Ida

Newton Center, Mass. - The Daniel Webster softball bats continued to come to life, rapping out 11 hits leading to 11 runs as the Eagles earned a GNAC split with host Mount Ida Thursday. The Eagles won the opener, 11-2 before a late rally fell short in a 9-7 game two loss.

The split moved the Eagles to 7-20-1 overall (5-14-1 GNAC), marking their highest season wins total since the 1998 season.

In the opener, seven different Eagles notched base hits with Tiana Winter, Kristina Rieger, Mikaelia Ramnanan and Stephanie Zubricki led with two hits each, while Erin Moseley added a three run shot in the third inning.

Rachel Schelhorn and Amanda Varricchio knocked in two runs each.

Moseley helped her cause with a solid complete game victory, allowing two earned runs on four hits, striking out four and walking two.

A Rieger two-run triple gave the Eagles the lead in the first and then broke the game open with six in the third keyed by Moseley’s three-run homer.

Mount Ida scratched for two in the bottom of the third, but Varricchio knocked in Lauren Coppola on an infield error in the fifth and the Eagles tacked on two in the sixth for the 11-2 final.

In the nightcap, the Eagles fell into a 9-2 hole after four innings, rebounded with four in the fifth and one in the seventh, but the rally fell short in the 9-7 loss.

Varricchio lead the Eagle attack with three hits including a double, knocked in one and scored twice, while Zubricki knocked in two.

The Eagles host Suffolk Friday in a GNAC doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.
