Eagles Swept By Johnson & Wales

East Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double header with Daniel Webster at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon. Johnson & Wales took the first game by a score of 11-6 and completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

In the first game, Johnson & Wales got out to an early 7-1 lead before Daniel Webster rallied with three in the fourth and two more in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-6. JWU responded in the top of the seventh with four runs, including a three run triple by junior Kerry Cotter (Nashua, N.H.) to take the 11-6 lead and the Wildcats would then hold on for the 11-6 victory. Cotter went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI to pace the Wildcats while freshman Sarah Mason (May Landing, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the setback for Daniel Webster.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats dominated early, scoring five in the the top of the second and cruised to the 6-1 victory. Senior Allison Winslow (Milford, N.H.) picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching a complete game with three hits and three strikeouts while the offense was paced by junior Jill Silva (Somerset, Mass.) with two hits and two RBI in the victory.

With the wins Johnson & Wales is now 6-16 overall, 3-9 in the GNAC while Daniel Webster falls to 1-7, 0-6 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 10th when they travel to Suffolk for a GNAC double header, starting at 3:00 p.m.
