- With information of WNEC Sports Information -
Nashua – The Western New England College softball team secured second place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) after rolling to an 11-0, 10-2 doubleheader sweep over visiting Daniel Webster College Monday. Both games ended in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.

The games marked the final chapter of athletic competition in all sports between the two schools as conference foes. WNEC will depart for the Commonwealth Coast Conference next season.

Junior designated player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) had a big day at the plate going 5-for-7 with seven RBI and three runs in the two contests. She was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in the opener. In the second game she led off the third with her team high ninth homer of the season and added a two-run double later in the inning.

Junior third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT) also went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI in the first game. Sophomore shortstop Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) slugged a three-run homer in the nightcap.

Sophomore Laura Bower (Hudson, MA) struck out six and gave up only one hit in three innings to improve to record to 12-6. Freshman Vic Lospinuso (West Islip, NY) allowed only two hits with a strikeout in three innings in the second game to raise her record to 4-0.

The Eagles (2-18, 1-17 GNAC) finally got on the board when sophomore centerfielder Stephanie Zubricki (Brookline, NH) knocked in two runs with a single in the fifth inning of the second contest.

Western New England College (25-11, 18-4) will receive a first-round bye in the GNAC Tournament that begins Friday in Springfield. The Golden Bears open play Saturday against an opponent to be named.
