Eagles Swept In Season Finale By Sharks

Nashua – Natalie West (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went a combined 5-for-8 with five RBI and Kim Korenewsky (Pelham, Mass.) went 3-for-8 leading Simmons to a doubleheader softball sweep of Daniel Webster, 5-3 and 7-1 in the regular season finale for both squads Tuesday.

In the 5-3 opener, West notched tow hits and knocked in two with a single as part of a four-run third that erased an early 2-0 Eagle lead. Leah Derderian (Boylston, Mass.) added RBI singles in the third and seventh.

Joanna Donato (Holland, Mass.) earned the win (6-8), allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out four.

The Eagles jumped ahead 2-0 in the second on Joanna Brinkerhoff (Ghent, N.Y.) RBI single and an error. After falling behind 4-2 in the top of the third, DWC answered with a Danielle Zubricki (Brookline, N.H.) sacrifice fly that scored Jessica Carter (Martinsburg, W.V.) for a 4-3 game.

Erin Hurd (Centerville, Mass.) led the Eagles with two hits.

Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) took the loss (1-8), allowing five runs on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking two.

In the nightcap, Sammi Letizio (Windham, N.H.) spun a complete game one-hitter, allowing one unearned run, striking out four and walking one.

West belted three hits and knocked in three with RBI singles in the first, second and fourth innings. The Sharks plated five runs in the top of the first as Letizio helped her own cause with a two-run double.

Moseley doubled home Carter in the bottom of the seventh to break the shutout bid. Sarah Mason (May Landing, N.J.) took the loss.

The Eagles finish their season 2-20 overall, while the GNAC tournament-bound Sharks finished 17-15.
