Eagles Take Long Road Back, Stun Gators, 3-2
Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) notched a match high 19 kills and added 10
serving aces and Amy Ingvertsen (Cornwall, Conn.) dished out 21 assists as
the Daniel Webster volleyball team rallied from two games down to stun Pine
Manor, 3-2 in a GNAC matchup Wednesday night at Vagge Gymnasium.
Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) added nine kills and eight blocks while Jessica
Carter (Martinsburg, W.V.) and Brianna Johnson (Nashua, N.H.) notched seven
kills each. DWC (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) rallied to win 26-30, 19-30, 30-27, 30-20,
and 15-9 in the pivotal fifth game.
The Eagles were five points from being swept, trailing 25-22 in game three
before beginning its long rally back. Tied at 26 in the third, Boyd notched
back-to-back points on a block and dink, while Mosely followed with an ace
for a 29-26 lead. After an unforced error, Boyd followed with a game saving
kill and 30-27 win.
The Gators (5-5, 1-2 GNAC) grabbed a 15-11 lead in the fourth before Johnson
took over at the line, rattling off six straight points and the Eagles took
advantage of three Pine Manor unforced errors for a 17-15 lead, a lead they
would not relinquish the rest of the night. Two Johnson kills, two Moseley
kills and a Carter ace sewed up a 30-20 win.
In the fifth, a Moseley kill and ace put DWC up, 4-1. Moseley then went to
work on the serving line, rattling off five straight points for a commanding
9-1 lead. A Rosilla Badami (New Paltz, N.Y.) kill ballooned the lead to 12-2
before the Gators rallied to cut the lead to 12-6 thanks to three unforced
hitting errors.
But Carter answered with a huge kill down the right line to steal momentum
and followed with an ace for a 14-6 lead. A Johnson kill later put the
finishing touches on the 15-9 final.
DWC hosts Simmons and Norwich in a GNAC tri-match Sunday beginning at 11:00
a.m. Pine Manor hosts Albertus Magnus and Southern Vermont Saturday
beginning at 1:00 p.m.
