Eagles Split With Simmons, Norwich
The Daniel Webster volleyball squad split a GNAC tri-match with Simmons and
Norwich this afternoon at Vagge Gymnasium.
Just four days after staging an impressive comeback over Pine Manor after
trailing 2-1, it was Simmons who left the sour taste of a comeback in the
Eagles mouths, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to win 3-2 in the day's opener.
Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) notched 18 kills and 11 blocks, while Amy
Ingvertsen (Cornwall, Conn.) added 16 digs and four aces and Kayleigh Brown
(Belmont, N.H.) dished out 18 assists.
The loss was particularly hard to take as the teams went neck and neck over
the final two games with the Sharks winning 31-29 in the fourth and 17-15 in
the fifth.
The Eagles (3-3, 2-1 GNAC) rallied in the nightcap, however, scoring a 3-1 win
(30-20, 27-30, 30-24, 30-17) over the Cadets. Moseley and Brianna Johnson
(Nashua, N.H.) led the way with 13 kills each, while Brown handed out 25
assists. Jessica Carter (Martinsburg, W.V.) added 10 digs, while Ashley Boyd
(Hanson, Mass.) notched 10 blocks.
In the other tri-match meeting, Simmons downed Norwich, 3-0.
The Eagles are off until Wednesday when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to
face Hesser Junior College in a non-NCAA match up. The Eagles return to
regional play Saturday when they travel to Western New England for a GNAC
tri-match with Albertus Magnus.
