Eagles Sweep Blue Jays for Tri-match Split

Brianna Johnson:
Two double doubles
in Saturday's split.

Bennington, Vt. - Brianna Johnson (Nashua, N.H.) knocked down a match high 14 kills and added 10 digs to lead Daniel Webster past St. Joseph's (Conn.), 3-0 in an important mid-season GNAC volleyball contest Saturday in Bennington, Vt. as part of a tri-match including host Southern Vermont.

Johnson added four serving aces and Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) chipped in with eight kills, seven digs and three blocks as the Eagles easily handled the Blue Jays, winning 30-13, 30-18 and 30-11.

Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) helped the cause with seven kills and two blocks, while Kayleigh Brown (Belmont, N.H.) dished out 23 assists.

The win came on the heels of a 3-0 setback to a surprising host Southern Vermont squad, that swept the Eagles in the nightcap of the tri-match, 3-0. It was a more frustrating outing against the host Mountaineers (11-6), who were just a touch better in all three games, winning 30-28, 30-28 and 32-30.

Moseley led the attack with 13 kills, adding nine digs, three aces and two solo blocks. Johnson enjoyed another solid outing, finishing with 11 kills and 11 digs. Boyd chipped in with an eight kill, three block showing and Brown added 17 assists.

The overall split moved DWC to 5-5 overall on the season, but an important 4-2 in the GNAC standings, putting them squarely in the post-season tournament hunt.

The Eagles are off until Saturday when they travel to future GNAC foe Mount Ida beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Mustangs join the GNAC next season.
