The Johnson & Wales University women’s volleyball team posted a pair of victories against Daniel Webster and Emerson on a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at the Harborside RAC on Saturday afternoon. The day marked the final regular season home games for seniors Rebecca Berta (Agawam, Mass.), Ashley Campell (Germantown, Ohio), Vanessa Lawrence (Ledyard, Mass.) and Samantha Scholten (Murrieta, Calif.). In the first match of the day, JWU swept Daniel Webster 3-0 (30-12, 30-19, 30-12). The day’s second match had Emerson defeating Daniel Webster, 3-1 (30-21, 30-19, 24-30, 27). JWU notched its second victory of the day with a 3-0 win against Emerson (30-12, 30-22, 30-22).

In the opening game of the day, JWU junior Kelle Pfunder (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way with 11 kills and added five digs while Scholten registered nine kills for the Wildcats. Junior Aurdra Vaccari (Winstead, Conn.) was outstanding for JWU, notching 36 set assists, 10 service aces and six digs. Leading the way for Daniel Webster was freshman Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) who tallied seven kills and four blocks.

Senior Kelly Hogan (Salem, N.H.) paced Emerson in their victory against Daniel Webster, tallying 21 kills with 17 digs while fellow senior Alex Porteshawver (Davenport, Iowa) added 10 kills and 10 digs for the Lions. Senior Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) recorded 18 kills and 14 digs in the setback for Daniel Webster.

Sophomore Alanna Schloff (Oak Park, Ill.) led the way for JWU in the shut out of Emerson, recording 12 kills with four digs and four blocks while Vaccari added 31 set assists and eight digs in the win for the Wildcats. Porteshawver recorded 11 kills and 17 digs for Emerson while senior Kelly Gloor (Ringwood, N.J.) added 21 set assists in the setback for the Lions.

Johnson & Wales is now 19-13, 6-3 in the GNAC. Daniel Webster stands at 6-8, 4-4 in the GNAC while Emerson is now 7-8 overall, 5-3 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, October 25th when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
