Eagles Make First Lyndon Meeting Memorable, Win 3-0

Jess Carter follows through on one of her eight kills as Jasmine Salinas (right) looks on during the second game of Thursday night's volleyball tilt at Vagge Gymnasium. The Eagles won, 3-0 (Gil Talbot Photo).

(Nashua) - (Nashua) – Brianna Johnson (Nashua, N. H.) registered a match high 10 kills and added two blocks and two serving aces powering host Daniel Webster to a 3-0 sweep of Lyndon State in a women’s volleyball matchup at Vagge Gymnasium Thursday night in the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Jasmine Salinas (Houston, Tex.) added nine kills and Jessica Carter (Martinsburg, W.V.) kicked in with eight as the Eagles (3-2) halted a brief two-game skid with the 30-25, 30-11, 30-21 victory.

Ashlea Ireland (Hampden, Maine) led the Hornets (4-5) with six kills and five blocks, while Ally Ciaramitaro (Melrose, Mass.) added nine digs defensively.

Marissa Slane (Milford, N.H.) dished out 23 assists for the Eagles.

Daniel Webster trailed just once in the match, falling behind 7-1 in the opening game due to a number of unforced errors, but took control with an 18-4 run keyed by 12

consecutive service points from Jessica Milbert (New Ipswich, N.H.) along with back to back kills from Salinas and two kills each from Jessica Booth (Westminster, Mass.) and Carter.

Milbert's 12-point scoring run in game one, and five aces overall,  led the Eagles from the line.

The Eagles built leads of 11-3 and 20-8 in game two including two of Jessica Milbert’s (New Ipswich, N.H.) match high five aces, and Salinas closed out the 30-11 win with two straight kills.

Tied 4-4 early in game three, an Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) kill put the hosts up 5-4, sparking a 4-0 spurt including a Slane ace and another Salinas kill to pull ahead for good.

The Hornets pulled back close at 14-13, but four successive unforced errors put DWC in front 18-13 and Johnson later closed out the match with her 10th and final kill.

The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to Saint Joseph’s (Maine) Saturday for a GNAC matchup beginning at 3:00 p.m. Lyndon State hosts Hesser Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
