(Courtesy Mount Ida Sports Information)
Newton Center, MA – Senior guard Crystal Burgess (Lowell, MA) led the charge
for the Mustangs with 19 points and seven steals to give her team the 76-65
victory against Daniel Webster College. Mount Ida would improve their record
to 5-9 overall and a perfect 2-0 record in the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC).
There would be six ties in the first half with both teams working hard to
take the advantage. But the Mustangs kept inching away maintaining the lead
up until the 39 second mark going into the break.
Eagle senior Erin Moseley (Sterling, MA), who finished with a season high 26
points, dropped in a lay-up and was fouled giving her the three point play
up 30-32. They would exchange baskets before the buzzer making it 34-32
Eagles.
The second half started with DWC going ahead four in the opening minutes,
but the Mustangs would have the most outstanding game of their season with
incredible defense causing 26 turnovers and giving them more opportunities
for baskets. It was extremely close with the Eagles only down single digits
almost the entire second stanza. But the home team would be too strong down
the stretch giving them their second conference victory of the season. MIC
would have a stellar evening from the charity stripe going 19-26 at 73.1
percent.
There would be five Mustangs in double digits with senior Lauren Hickey
(Enosburg Falls, VT/Richford) and sophomore Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro,
MA/Attleboro) netting 13 a piece with 14 rebound combined. Sophomore Nicole
Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) would be a perfect 3-3 from downtown with 17
points and seven boards. Junior Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) chipped in
14 with six rebounds.
Moseley added eight rebounds and four steals for the Eagles (6-5, 0-2 GNAC),
while Alyssa Regan notched 13, Nicole Conley hit for 11 and Brianna
DeSeignora added 10.
