Eagles Succumb To Lions, 76-44
Nashua - Kathy Andrade (Hull, Mass.) notched 16 points and Lindsay DeStefano
(Gloucester, R.I.) added 15 leading five players in double figures as
Emerson topped host Daniel Webster, 76-44 in a GNAC women’s basketball
matchup Wednesday night.
Lauren Vassallo (Oxford, Conn.) added 12 points while Maude Okrah (Rutland,
Mass.) and Bri Papa (Camillus, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points each as the
Lions improved to 8-9 overall (3-2 GNAC) and halted DWC’s three game winning
streak.
Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) led the Eagles with a game high 18 points and
12 rebounds, while Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) added 12 points.
The game was won in the paint as Emerson finished with a 22-12 advantage
under the Eagle glass, garnering a 51-41 total advantage on the boards. The
Lions were also aided by 29 Eagle turnovers, leading to 24 points.
The Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 2:30, and held a seven
point lead at 19-12 after an Andrade jumper with 9:16 to go in the half.
DWC responded with a quick 7-0 run over a three minute stretch thanks to two
layups from Moseley and a three pointer from Nicole Conley (Hinesburg, Vt.)
for a 20-19 lead.
But Emerson answered by closing out the half on a 15-2 run aided by two
jumpers each from Andrade and Okrah for a 34-22 lead at the break.
Emerson opened the game up in the opening minutes of the second half with a
12-0 run keyed by two treys from DeStefano and never looked back.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to Johnson & Wales for
a 1:00 p.m. GNAC matchup. Emerson travels to Simmons Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
