Second Half Surge Sends Simmons Past Eagles
(Courtesy Simmons Sports Information)
Boston – The Simmons College basketball put everything together on Thursday
night overcoming a slow first half before pulling away to clinch a 68-49 win
over Daniel Webster.
Both teams played a back and forth first half as the lead changed early and
often before Simmons (6-12, 2-5) settled in for a three point halftime lead
at 25-22.
The second half was a totally different tune as the Sharks found their
groove and ran away with things.
The defense was key as their full court pressure forced the Eagles into
quick shots, and turnovers that turned into easy buckets at the other end of
the floor.
Junior Lauren Kreckie led the way for the Sharks with 16 points five
rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Stephanie Fox who continued her stellar
play contributing 15 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
These two proved to be a tough riddle for the Eagles to solve at the
defensive end, and that opened things up for the guards Morgan Johnson (10
points) and Sarah Clayton (8 points) in the final frame.
The Sharks shot 43 percent from the field in the second half, and held
Daniel Webster to just 31 percent for the game while forcing 42 turnovers.
For the Eagles (9-9, 2-5 GNAC), three players scored in double figures.
Briana DeSeignora notched 11, Erin Mosley had 12, and Joyce Chagan also had
11.
The Eagles host Albertus Magnus Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
