Eagles Fall To Albertus
Nashua – Nikki McClease (New Haven. Conn.) knocked down a double double with
a game high 24 points and added 16 rebounds, and Krystal Bryant (New Haven,
Conn.) finished close behind with 20 points including 16 in the second half
and added 16 more boards guiding Albertus Magnus past host Daniel Webster,
74-55 in GNAC women’s basketball Saturday afternoon.
Kendra Dowen (Montpelier, Vt.) also hit for the double double with 10 points
and 12 rebounds and the Falcons (9-9, 2-6 GNAC) held the Eagles to (9-10,
2-6 GNAC) three points over the final seven minutes of the game.
But the key to the game was on the boards as Albertus overwhelmed the Eagles
in the second half finishing with a decisive 37-12 rebounding advantage
including 19 on the offensive glass.
Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) led the Eagles with 16 points and four steals,
while Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) added 11.
Albertus, winners of three straight, also took advantage of 25 fouls called
on DWC as they finished 25 of 38 at the line including 13 of 17 in the
second half. The Eagles were 17 of 24 at the line.
DWC led 31-28 at the half with 13 coming from Regan.
The Eagles opened up a six-point lead over the first 3:32 of the second half
keyed by two baskets from Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.).
But Albertus answered with a slow and steady charge over the next four and
half minutes - part of a 12-5 run - and the Falcons edged ahead on two Dowen
free throws with 12:52 left for a 44-43 lead.
Back to back shots from Regan and Sara Shea regained a three-point edge but
Dowen later responded with a layup to tie it at 48 with 11:00 to play and
Alyson Medeiros followed with a three with 9:41 left to give Albertus the
lead for good.
Trailing by four with 5:36 to go, Moseley posted a layup for a 56-54 game,
but Medeiros followed with another three and the Eagles could not manage to
pull closer as Albertus pulled away over the final five minutes.
DWC returns to action Wednesday as they host Rivier at 7:00 p.m. Albertus
travels to Regis Monday at 7:00 p.m.
