Norwich Defense Halts Eagles

Nashua – Laurel McWilliams notched 12 points while Kylie Cowens added 11 and Jess Jaggers chipped in with 10 leading Norwich past host Daniel Webster, 72-44 in GNAC women’s basketball Saturday afternoon.

Christine Daniels added a game high 11 rebounds and chipped in with seven points as the Cadets (8-13, 7-3 GNAC) won their third straight and have won seven of their last 10.

Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) led the Eagles with 16 points and Sara Shea (Quincy, Mass.) added 11 as the Eagles dropped to 9-12 overall and 2-8 in GNAC play.

Norwich was aided by 23 Eagle turnovers that led to 26 points and an Eagle squad that struggled from the field throughout, finishing 27 percent from the field.

After building a 17-10 lead over the first 10 minutes and holding a 30-20 advantage at the half, Norwich held the Eagles to one point over the first 5:03 of the second half, opening up a 22-point lead and the Eagles never pulled closer than 19 the rest of the way.

The Eagles are back in action Tuesday as they travel to St. Joseph’s (Maine) for a 5:30 p.m. GNAC matchup. Norwich hosts Rivier Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
