Regis Rides First Half Start To Win Over Eagles

Courtesy Regis Sports Information
Weston, Mass. - Regis College Women’s Basketball outscored visiting Daniel Webster College 42-17 in the first-half and handed their non-conference visitors an 80-55 loss Thursday night. The victory improves Regis to 3-2 overall, and drops Daniel Webster to 2-3 on the year.

Regis’ big three, the only remaining returners from last year’s squad, were the three highest scorers in the game. 2006-07 Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie-of-the-Year, sophomore Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.), led the way with a tremendous first-half shooting display, single-handedly outscoring her opponents 20-17, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. Page would finish with a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high four steals.

Junior forward and captain Kim Mariotti (Springfield, Mass.) posted a double double, scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

In addition, junior point-guard Laura Sears (Billerica, Mass.) also added 19 points on the night, earning most of her night’s work from the free-throw line. Sears went 13-for-16 from the line in a game where Daniel Webster forced Regis to the charity stripe 46 times and committed 29 fouls.

Daniel Webster was plagued by 12 first-half turnovers and committed 14 fouls in the opening half. Despite the loss, Daniel Webster received a strong contribution from freshman guard Joyce Chagan (Boothbay, Maine). Chagan scored a team-high 14 points, adding five rebounds, and three assists.

Regis will host New England College on Saturday in a 1pm home tip-off, while Daniel travels to Wheelock on Saturday for a 4pm start.
