Paxton, Mass. – Sophomore Joyce Chagan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) had a game-high 22 points going a remarkable 10 of 12 from the field and added six assists to lead the Daniel Webster College women’s basketball to a 75-40 opening day victory over Anna Maria College at the Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon.

Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) added 13 points and four steals in her Eagle debut while junior cocaptain Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and three boards.

The Eagles (1-0) took an early 5-0 lead before the AMCATS (0-1) came alive to go on an 8-0 run, grabbing an 11-9 advantage in the process.

Daniel Webster responded by exploding for a 22-6 run with Chagan and freshman Amy Nelson (Cheshire, Conn.) leading the way. Chagan had seven points, three assists, and two steals during the stretch while Nelson added eight points.

The two teams entered halftime with Daniel Webster leading 39-26. The Eagles repeatedly took advantage of AMC mistakes, scoring 27 first half points off of turnovers.

The second half was much of the same from the Eagles who dominated inside with 50 points in the paint.

Freshman Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) led the AMCATS with 19 points and five rebounds.

The Eagles will play again on Wednesday when they host Johnston State at 5:00 p.m. in their home opener.
