Boston, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Boston has announced its
2007 Athletic Hall of Fame class, naming current Daniel Webster
women’s basketball assistant Coach Kerri Quinn to its group of inductees.
Quinn (Class of '95) joins 11 others who were voted in by a 15-member Hall
of Fame committee in May and will be formally inducted at a ceremony on
October 11, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the Campus Center ballroom on the campus of
UMass Boston. The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors former outstanding
UMass Boston/Boston State College student-athletes, coaches, administrators
and friends of the athletic program for their accomplishments and services
to the Department of Athletics.
Quinn excelled in basketball and softball at UMass Boston and was a
four-year starter in both sports from 1989-1994.
The two-year captain for softball batted .328 or better in three of her four
campaigns with a freshman debut season that saw her hit .344 (21-61). She
capped her career by leading the Beacons with a .397 (25-63) batting mark
and finished with a career .339 (83-245) batting average to rank eighth in
school history.
Quinn led UMB in runs scored three times and owns the career mark with 80
runs scored, while her season total of 24 as a senior is the fourth-highest
mark. The shortstop maintained a .432 career on-base percentage in 74 games
and is prominent on the UMass Boston career ladder with 83 hits (fourth), 39
bases on balls (fifth), 97 total bases (seventh) and 33 runs batted in
(10th). The 1995 UMB graduate was pretty good with the glove as well,
ranking fourth in school annals with 191 career assists and 10th with 182
putouts.
She was also one of the best three-point shooters in UMB basketball history,
canning 133 treys for her career to rank third among Beacons’ players and
nailed a school-record eight trifectas at Rhode Island College on December
8, 1990. The guard knocked down 40 or more three-pointers in three different
seasons and her streak of 14 games with at least one made three-pointer is
the second-longest in school history.
Quinn was a co-captain as a senior and sank 76.2% (80-105) of her free
throws that year for the second-most proficient mark in school annals as
part of a career percentage of .715 (178-249), which is the fourth-best all
time at UMB. The Weymouth, Mass. native finished her career with 963 points
in 87 games to average 11.1 points per game for her career and place her
seventh on the Beacons’ all-time scoring list. Quinn could also distribute
the basketball, leading the team in assists twice, while dishing out 211
career helpers to rank sixth at UMass Boston.
