Eagle Comeback Falls Just Short At Albertus, 56-51

(New Haven, Conn.) - Candace Young knocked down a game high 21 points and
Krystal Bryant added a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds as host
Albertus Magnus clipped Daniel Webster, 56-51 Saturday in the GNAC opener
for both clubs.
Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) led the Eagles (5-5 / 0-1 GNAC) with 19
points and nine boards, while Sarah Shea added 13 points.
Dena Mentel and Noelle Leonelli added 10 points each for the Falcons (2-8 /
1-0 GNAC).
After jumped ahead 4-0 in the early going, the Eagles saw the Falcons rally
to build a 10 point lead midway through the first half and led 26-17 at the
break.
Trailing 51-45 with 2:19 to play, the Eagles made one last push. A Shea
three pointer made it 51-48 with 1:44 left and after a Leonelli free throw,
a Danielle Carkin layup and a Moseley free throw made it 52-51 with 1:08 to
play.
After Mentel sank one of the two, Shea drew a Mentel foul and sank both to
tie it at 53 with 49 seconds left.
But Leonelli drew another foul and sank one and the Falcons forced two
turnovers in the waning seconds to escape with the win.
The Eagles return to action Monday when they host Western New England in a
GNAC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
