Moseley Pulls Down Record, Helps Eagles Rebound Past J&W

Box Score

Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) set a new Daniel Webster game record with 25 rebounds and added nine points, and Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) added a game high 12 points as the host Eagles nipped Johnson & Wales, 44-40 in a GNAC matchup Saturday.

Moseley broke a record than stood for 11 seasons, surpassing three former Eagles who had each reached 24 in one game, most recently by Kelly Reeves in a victory over Trinity (Vt.) on February 11, 1995.

Danielle Carkin (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 10 points for the Eagles, who halted a four game losing streak, while Sarah Shea added nine.

Shannon Hunter (Thoreau, N.M.), Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Cal.) and Alexandra Ventura (Boston, Mass.) all notched nine points for the Wildcats (8-11, 4-2 GNAC).

Both teams struggled mightily in the first half, combining to go 10 of 66 from the field with Johnson & Wales shooting 6 of 34 (17%) and Daniel Webster hitting on just 4 of 32 (12%) resulting in a 14-11 Johnson & Wales lead.

But the Eagles came out firing in the second half, shooting 52% from the field, while the Wildcats improved to 29%.

Trailing 27-20 with 11:14 to play, DeSeignora converted a layup off a steal and Carkin followed with a 20-foot jumper sparking a 14-2 run ending with another Carkin jumper for a 34-29 led with 6:50 left and the Wildcats would never pulled closer than two the rest of the way.

Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) chipped in with four points, six rebound and four blocks for the Eagles, who host Simmons Monday at 7:00 p.m. in a GNAC matchup.
