Western New England Bests DWC, 82-54

Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, Conn.) notched 14 points while Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, Conn.) and Kristi LaBare (Burke, N.Y.) added 12 each to lead Western New England past host Daniel Webster, 82-54 in GNAC women’s action Monday night.

The win propelled the Golden Bears (13-10, 7-2 GNAC) to their eighth straight win and clinched a home game for the opening round of the GNAC tournament.

Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) led the Eagles (7-14, 1-8 GNAC) with a game high 15 points, while Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) and Emily Coole (Pepperell, Mass.) added 12 points each.

WNEC came out sizzling to open the game, knocking down 11 of their first 16 from the field finishing 56% from the floor as they built a 49-27 halftime lead. Simoncelli did a majority of the damage, knocking down 6 of 7 from the field, Dabrowski notched eight and Christine Aldrich (Montpelier, Vt.) added all of her nine points on the night.

The Eagles led 10-9 after a Boyd layup at the 16:03 mark, but the Golden Bears answered with a 20-4 run over the next 6:05 and took a commanding 29-14 lead after a Simoncelli layup.

WNEC finished 53% from the field on the night, while the Eagles managed 35%. The Golden Bears also finished with a 39-29 advantage on the boards.

Katie Arey (Enfield, N.H.) chipped in with eight points for WNEC, which travels to Suffolk Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC contest.

Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) added five points and a team best seven boards for the Eagles, who travel to Emerson Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC game.
