Eagles Go Out On Winning Note, 54-52

Box Score

Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) notched a double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Nicole Conley (Hinesburg, Vt.) added 12 points to lead host Daniel Webster past Saint Joseph’s (Conn.), 54-52 in the GNAC and regular season finale for both clubs Saturday.

The Eagles, who finished the season 8-15 overall (2-9 GNAC) were also paced by 10 points from Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.), while Ashley Boyd (Hanson, Mass.) pulled in a game high 12 rebounds in a game that saw seven lead changes and nine ties.

Keri Hallberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Blue Jays (7-18, 3-8 GNAC) with a game high 22 points while Sam Krupa (Cromwell, Conn.) added 11 and six rebounds. Kendra Dowen (Montpelier, Vt.) chipped in with six points and seven boards.

The Eagles trailed 23-20 at the half having shot just 20% from the field. But DWC rallied in the second, knocking down 47% from the field and finished with a 46-33 advantage on the boards for the game.

Tied at 48 with 1:29 to play after a Hallberg layup, DeSeignora followed with a 10-foot jumper with 1:10 to play. Conley later buried two at the line for a four point edge with 25 seconds left.

After a missed Blue Jay three, Jenny Ozug (Westport, Mass.) was fouled and sank both free throws for a six point edge with 14 seconds left, but Krupa followed with a quick layup and after a DWC turnover, added another jumper with six seconds left.

But the Blue Jays could not get another possession in the closing seconds, preserving the Eagle win.

Both Ozug and Sarah Shea (Quincy, Mass.) finished up with six points for the hosts.

Moseley, who was closing in on career point 1,000, will have to wait until the beginning of next season to accomplish the feat. She will enter the 2007-08 campaign 11 points from the milestone.
