Suffolk Downs Eagles, 7-0

Nashua -- The freshmen duo of Meghan O’Connell (Abington, Mass.) and Leslie Hayden (Ross, Cal.) combined for all seven goals in leading the Suffolk women’s soccer team past host Daniel Webster College, 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at Eagle Field.

O’Connell notched four goals including three in the first half and set up another, while Hayden added a hat trick and added three assists as the Rams evened their record at 1-1 overall.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 0-2 on the early season.

Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) and Kira Clark (Saco, Maine) combined for eight saves for the Eagles, while Samantha Stellmach (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Emily Joyce (Easton, Mass.) combined for two stops for the Rams.

O’Connell got the Rams going 1:36 into the contest off a Hayden feed and O’Connell returned the favor with a 20-yard cross pass to Hayden 9:47 in for a 2-0 advantage.

Hayden set up O’Connell again in the 17th minute and Hayden followed with a break away tally in the 41st before setting up O’Connell for her third of the day with 26 seconds left in the half and a 5-0 lead.

Hayden notched her third in the 52nd and O’Connell closed it out in the 61st.

The Eagles return to action when they travel to Bay Path Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup. The game marks the first ever New England Collegiate Conference matchup for the Eagles.
