EXCEL Program Format

The unique format of Daniel Webster College's EXCEL program focuses on one subject area at a time, in depth, in small groups called cohorts.  In the cohort model, you become part of a group that learns together and makes decisions collaboratively.  The cohort approach incorporates group activities that mirror a typical organizational environment.  Because you will be interacting with other students who have at least five years of work experience, you will become familiar with methods of problem solving and decision-making used by numerous companies.

Cohorts meet once a week for 18 months, and all courses in the curriculum are integrated and build on previously accomplished outcomes.  The unique format of the program focuses in depth on one subject area for five weeks and moves through the fourteen courses in a logical sequence.  You plan, develop and complete work-related projects outside the classroom, which, combined with teamwork in the classroom, provide the opportunity to learn by doing.  In addition, you will experience the satisfaction of seminar style, rather than lecture-based learning.

As a working adult, you will stay in your cohort for eighteen months and continuously learn from other members of your group.  You will build relationships and networking inside and outside of the classroom that will last for the rest of your life.

At the end of the program, each cohort develops and presents a "Capstone Project." It is a real-world application of the modules studied in each degree program.  You and your team members form a company, assign officer roles, and develop a comprehensive business plan.  You practice and demonstrate the skills, processes and knowledge acquired in your degree program.

In short, the Daniel Webster College EXCEL Degree Completion Program, through its unique format and curriculum, provides the resources adult students need for upward mobility throughout their careers.
