EXCEL Management and Information Technology Major (MIT)

The EXCEL program in Management and Information Technology enables individuals to understand and apply the strategic and operating skills of management and the application of information technology to solve real-world problems in all types of organizations. The bachelors degree in MIT is unique in that each course sequentially builds on the prior course. It is designed to enable students to create and manage information systems, to understand how information affects individuals, organizations and society and to be capable of formulating and evaluating policies at both the organizational and societal levels.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

Understand how and where to apply IT to organizational functions to meet business needs
Understand the function and management of computers, networks and IT
Exchange information using a variety of communications, tools and techniques
Successfully analyze, plan and direct people and projects
Define, interpret and solve complex problems using quantitative and qualitative methods
Develop and/or acquire software and systems
View, describe and define any situation as a system and apply systems analysis methods
Engage in appropriate behavior consistent with professional and ethical standards

Students in the MIT program need a PC system with Windows 95 or better, Office 95 Professional and Internet connection. The PC is used throughout the program for project development, simulation, scheduling and management, as well as for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation work. Proficiency in Microsoft Access and Project are required.
