Pathfinder: Animal Behavior

SCOPE: Researchers
have found psychological similarities between people and
animals. In most cases, the observed behavior was in a
controlled study as in Pavlov’s classical conditional
experiments and Skinner’s experiments with rats in the
“Skinner Box.” Unlike humans, animals cannot be held
responsible for their behavior. Thus, the primary focus
of research is on the how and what animals learn and how
they behave. (Kazdin, Encyclopedia of Psychology) The
purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline
for student research. It is not intended as a
comprehensive listing of all the materials available on
this topic, but as a selective sampling of the many
types of resources available in the library.
Books dealing with animal behavior are listed in the
Baddour Library online catalog under the following
subject headings:
SUBJECT HEADINGS
Animal behavior
Cats—Behavior
