Pathfinder: Animal Behavior

SCOPE: Researchers have found psychological similarities between people and animals. In most cases, the observed behavior was in a controlled study as in Pavlov’s classical conditional experiments and Skinner’s experiments with rats in the “Skinner Box.” Unlike humans, animals cannot be held responsible for their behavior. Thus, the primary focus of research is on the how and what animals learn and how they behave. (Kazdin, Encyclopedia of Psychology) The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing of all the materials available on this topic, but as a selective sampling of the many types of resources available in the library.
