Scope: Jane Austen was an 18th century British novelist whose novels dealt with middle class manners and values of a leisurely society. Although she did not receive great acknowledgement as a writer during her day, she was popular among the inner circles of the social milieu that she frequented. Today Austen has received resurgence in popularity, as her novels have been adapted for film. Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, and Emma are her more popular works. Austen’s literary value is attributed to her wit and style. |
