Blackboard Problem: No Place to Type
Problem
You may see a situation in BlackBoard when
trying to type a message in a Discussion Board or in a test where there is no
text box in which to type.
This is due to an Internet Explorer 7.0 browser setting. There are three ways to
fix the problem. If you are using
Windows Vista use Option 2.

Fix 1
When this situation happens there is a hard to discern error message that
appear at the top of the screen, above the Blackboard window. Click
on the error message as shown below. Then reply positively to the question that
follows.
You will be dumped out of
the Discussion Board. However, when you return the
problem will have disappeared and will not return on
that computer (though you may see it on another
computer.)
Fix 2
You can change a setting
within BlackBoard that will eliminate the problem.
However, it will remove some writing option
functionality like easily adding pictures.
-
Log on to BlackBoard.
-
On the My DWC tab, click Personal Information.
-
On the Personal Information screen, click Set
Visual Text Box Editor Options. Then click
the Unavailable button
You will no longer have access to the Visual
Text Box Editor shown below. However, you will
be able to type plain text.

Fix 3
If you use Mozilla's FireFox
as a browser when opening BlackBoard the situation will
not occur. You can download FireFox at
