Pathfinder: Business History

Scope|Subject Headings|Overview Sources|Circulating Books|Periodicals, Journals & Trade Publications

SCOPE: Americas business spirit began as early as the frontier days when trappers, miners, and farmers settled new lands, grew crops, and established new trade routes. The Industrial Revolution brought forth new entrepreneurs such as Elias Howe, John Deere, and Cyrus McCormick whose inventions helped pave the way for such industrial giants as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. As a result, the economy grew. These early innovators established the foundation for the way business is carried on today. ( Dethloff, Henry C., American Business History Case Studies) The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing of all the resources available in the library on this topic, but as a selective sampling of the many types of resources available.
