Scope: W.E.B. Dubois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on February 23,1868. He was the recipient of several literary awards including the Lenin International Peace Prize in 1958. An internationally renowned scholar and writer, Du Bois was also a strong advocate for the black community. He conducted in-depth social research for his works, which are primarily social commentaries on the state of Blacks in America.
