Faculty Services

Instruction
We offer instruction in research strategies, online searching, appropriate evaluation and selection of source materials, and subject specific research skills. Faculty are encouraged to schedule a course integrated instruction session for their students in courses with assigned research papers or projects. To schedule an instruction session, contact the Public Services Librarian, at x6541. Click here for more information.

Book and Video Selection
Each Division has an annual allocation of funds from the Library's budget from which to make purchasing requests. Simply fill out a Book Purchase Request Form and forward it to the library. We will make every effort to comply with your request in a timely manner while following the collection development policies of the library.  Our staff can also assist with identifying and locating materials. The library has a subscription to Choice Reviews Online which faculty is welcome to consult. For additional information, please see our collection development policy.

Placing Materials on Course Reserve
To place materials on course reserve, you will need to fill out a Baddour Library Reserve Form. Electronic files (.pdf, .doc, .wav, .mp3, .ppt, .bmp, .png, .jpg, .txt and .tiff) may be attached to an email message to librarian@dwc.edu along with the course name and number. Faculty may also bring a disk or cd to the Circulation Desk. Please use the smallest and most compressed files possible, as larger files are slow to download. For readings that are already available online, the library can link to those documents. For more information on Electronic Course Reserves, please see our FAQs and the Electronic Reserves Policy.

You need to provide all materials for course reserve ready to process. This means that if you do not wish to have the whole journal placed on reserve, you need to bring in a readable photocopy. The library will scan articles for you to place on electronic course reserve; however, this will result in additional turnaround time before these documents become available to students. Copyright compliance is the responsibility of the person placing the item on reserve. Photocopies that have already been on reserve for one semester must have copyright holder permission to be placed on reserve again.

Please allow 48 hours before telling students that reserve items are available (72 hours for electronic reserves that you have asked the library to scan for you). If you are bringing in your own personal copies, please be aware that the Library will need to put labels, and with your permission, a security strip in the materials. Materials that may be placed on course reserve include books, articles, tests, videos, music, audio clips, still images, and manipulatives.

Course reserve materials have a general loan period of two hours for in-Library use only. If you wish for an alternative loan period, please contact Marilyn Frankland (6542) to arrange this.

Chronicle of Higher Education
The library has a subscription to both the print and online versions of the Chronicle. To access the current issue, go to www.chronicle.com. To view back issues, a password is required. Contact Librarian to receive the logon and password.
