Scope: Henry Miller was an American novelist who travelled extensively in Europe. He lived in Paris during the 1930s. His novel Tropic of Cancer, published in 1934, was reflective of the lost generation of American writers who left for Paris during this time.
Miller was involved in many censorship trials over his works. Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn were banned until 1961. Many considered his works to be pornographic because of the explicit sexual material in his works.
