Scope: Born in Poland, Jerzy Kosinski received the National Book Award in 1969 for Steps. He fled Poland after Hitler's invasion. His style is one of a writer who mingles art with life. Kosinski was also an accomplished screenwriter, photographer, and athlete. His novels Painted Bird, Blind Date, and Passion Play have all been bestsellers.
