SCOPE: As in any society, various social, political, and economic conditions influence one’s living conditions and experiences. Although there have been significant gains in educational opportunities for women in the Middle East, women’s rights within the family context still remain a very controversial issue. Traditional norms and values surrounding women and family limit women’s freedom and opportunities (Deborah J. Gerner, Understanding the Contemporary Middle East).
