Scope: J. D. Salinger was a New Hampshire writer whose writing career began at the age of fifteen when he published his first short story. He led a very reclusive life, but achieved great popularity among the adolescent and college set. His most famous novel is Catcher in the Rye. The theme of his novels is the blossoming of adolescence and the exuberance of youth.
