SCOPE: Gender affects behavior. Whether an individual is a girl or boy will determine how that individual is regarded by our society. Gender is a classification system that shapes the relations among women and men. ( Colman, Andrew M., Companion Encyclopedia of Psychology) Gender stereotyping occurs when certain perceived behavioral responses and actions are expected from an individual because of their particular sex. The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing of all the materials available in the library on this topic, but as a selective sampling of the many types of materials available.
