Scope: The decade of the 1960s was a period of activism, promise and protest. Perhaps no other decade witnessed so many events that would impact society for years to come. Individual rights were brought to the forefront with the women's sexual revolution. Abortion and birth control were advocated. Youth protested the Vietnam War and the term hippie was coined. The decade ended on a note of despair with the tragic assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
