SCOPE: Sleep is controlled by neurophysiological mechanisms that underline the need, rhythmic, and behavioral controls of sleep. (Kazdin, Alan E. Encyclopedia of Psychology) Factors such as shift work, sleep apnea, jet lag, psychiatric disorders, and drugs and medications may alter the function of sleep patterns. The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing of all the materials available in the library on this topic, but is a selective sampling of the many types of materials available.
