Scope: John Steinbeck is
considered to be one of the greatest twentieth century
American writers. One of his more prominent novels,
The Grapes of Wrath, deals with the migrant
workers during the Depression. He explores the theme of
the American Dream and the notion of individuals
struggling to achieve success and fortune in spite of
their humble circumstances. Steinbeck may be called a
writer of the common man. His works have been adapted
for film, stage, and television.
