William Styron

Scope: William Styron attended school at Davidson College, Duke University and the New School for Social Research. He was a first lieutenant in the United States Marines during World War II. As a novelist he is best known for his works The Confessions of Nat Turner, and Sophies Choice, both of which deal with survivors of oppression. He was a civil rights advocate. In 1968 he received the Pulitzer Prize.
