Scope:  Anne Tyler is a contemporary American author who received the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1983. She received a Pulitzer Prize nomination in 1985 for her novel The Accidental Tourist which was also adapted for film. One of her major themes is the endurance of the human spirit. She remains a bestselling novelist today.
