SCOPE: The American West has become a symbol of the pursuit of the American Dream, to venture into a new frontier that promises a golden future. The open land in the West created opportunities for expansion and development. As early as 1751, Benjamin Franklin referred to the west as a farmer's paradise. (Kurian, Encyclopedia of American Studies) The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing, but as a selective sampling of the many types of resources available in the library.
