(Nashua,
NH) — Eclipse President and CEO Vern Raburn — innovator, aviator,
engineer, high tech veteran — engaged a packed house for Daniel Webster
College’s annual “Issues in Aviation” program April 7 with a presentation
at the College’s Collings Auditorium describing how his company’s
innovations and business practices, many taken from the IT industry, are
redefining the aerospace industry.
Raburn and his wife,
Dottie Hall, who is vice president of marketing at Eclipse, spent the
afternoon at Daniel Webster College exploring the College’s new air
traffic and flight simulation labs. Following a reception and dinner
hosted by Daniel Webster College and President Hannah McCarthy, Raburn
offered a lively presentation to an diverse audience of undergraduate and
graduate students; individuals from general aviation; aviation, high tech
and engineering professionals; and others who traveled from as far away as
Canada to hear Raburn speak.
“It is quite an honor
to hear from an individual with Vern’s breadth of experience in such
diverse industries,” said one attendee. “His company, Eclipse, is changing
the future of aviation and I am delighted to hear how he is going about
doing that.”
Raburn spoke about a
variety of aviation and business and financial management subjects,
including “on demand air,” lean manufacturing and supplier outsourcing, and
the future of the Very Light Jets (VLJ) class.
“Eclipse Aviation is
utilizing products of the IT industry and lessons learned in the IT
business to dramatically change the value proposition for jet aircraft
ownership,” said Raburn. “And like the IT world, all of these innovations
are significantly changing aviation at a rapid rate.”
Daniel Webster
College, founded in 1965 as the New England Aeronautical Institute, offers
nationally recognized aviation programs to college students. The college
offers Bachelor of Science degrees in aviation flight operations, air
traffic management, and aviation management. The college’s flight training
program is approved under the guidelines of Federal Aviation Regulation
Parts 141 and 61, and all instructors are Certified Flight Instructors.
DWC’s air traffic
management major is one of only 13 academic programs recognized by the FAA
as part of its Collegiate Training Initiative and is offered for the
traditional day student, as well as a new evening ATC program designed for
students who hold an associate or baccalaureate degree and wish to earn a
second degree to qualify them for a career in air traffic control. FAA
regulations require that individuals receive their initial appointment as
an air traffic controller before their 31st birthday; therefore
students will not typically be accepted into the evening program after
their 28th birthday. For more information about Daniel Webster
College and its aviation, engineering computer science, business and
management, and social science program serving both traditional and adult
