“NH Outlook” to feature DWC
young entrepreneur Jason Ekstrom ’07

New Hampshire Public Television and DWC junior Jason Ekstrom have been seeing an awful lot of each other. And viewers around the state will get to know him also and learn about his entrepreneurial success when Jason’s business, Ekstrom Lawn Care, is featured in the October 24th show of NH public television’s “NH Outlook” on Channel 11 at 7:30 p.m. (date is tentative)

Jason, a business management major, grew his “one kid” lawn mowing operation in a Hollis, N.H., neighborhood eight years ago into an award-winning business recognized by the Mississippi Coastal Student Entrepreneur Awards during his sophomore year. Since that time, articles about his youthful success have popped up in local and business publications around the state and grabbed the attention of NH Public
Television.

Said the program’s producer Phil Vaughn, “We learned about Jason from the Daniel Webster website. We want to do a profile on him and his business venture from the time he was 12 years old, when he had a dream of creating a business, to the present.”

The video crew was out to Jason’s home twice. The first time, they interviewed Jason and his family and employees. The film crew most recently came to Hollis October 3, when they interviewed his very first customer, Dr. Henry Astarjia, and filmed Jason and one of his employees mowing the Doctor’s three-acre lawn.

Dr. Astarjia attributed Jason’s success to a number of things: “he’s reliable, honest, hard-working, and satisfies his customers. He’s a leader in this field and is setting an example for other youth, that honesty and hard work really pay off.”

In spite of all of the responsibility, noted Dr. Astarjia, Jason has not compromised his education at Daniel Webster. “He wants to continue his education and has a good attitude.”

Currently Ekstrom Lawn Care has five employees and mows 110 lawns a week during “peak” season. Additionally, the company has 80 regular snowplowing customers.
