Gamers Unite: DWC To Host Holodek Tournament

(Nashua) – Gamers from across the region will be converging on Daniel Webster College, Nashua, August 5 and 6 for their chance to show off their own gaming skills and "win big" or root for their favorite team at HoloDek's first tournament in the Granite State outside their Hampton, N.H., headquarters.

The first place team will walk away with $2,000, with lesser amounts to be paid to the second through fifth place team of the 32 five-person teams that will be playing.

The tournament is unique in that it will be largest of its kind ever staged in the entire region, according to tournament spokesman Torrey McPheters. “We are all very excited to brining the Holodek tournament to Daniel Webster College and the Nashua area,” said McPheters. “This is an extraordinary opportunity to create a sporting-like atmosphere for both gamers and gaming fans. It’s a chance to draw people from areas in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts that we normally have not had traditional access to.”

Holodek has long term goals as well. “Our goal is to provide more tournaments on a regular basis to the gaming community, and we have been extremely happy with how Daniel Webster College has embraced our program” McPheters said. “The tournament will be professionally operated. We see this as an opportunity to show off what we do and how well we do it.”

"It's a wonderful relationship that benefits both organizations," said Heidi Crowell, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Information Officer. "HoloDek is able to offer its unique program to people outside the New Hampshire Seacoast area, while Daniel Webster College can reach out to "gamers" throughout Southern New Hampshire and beyond, showcase its own programs and its ability to successfully work with us to put on a exceptional program.”

Tournament entry fees for each day are $20 at the door or $15 if prepaid before August 2. Spectators may attend for free. Players may pre-register and prepay for their team online, in person at HoloDek, 8 Merrill Industrial Drive, Hampton, N.H., by calling 603-758-1010, or by e-mail at info@Holo-Dek.com to assure their spot, as the maximum number of teams is limited.

Seeding rounds begin at 10:00 a.m. and the double elimination tournaments begin at 5:00 p.m.

The tourney will be held in the Collings Auditorium at Daniel Webster College, 20 University Drive, Nashua, N.H. Directions

Players are welcome to bring their own peripherals including mouse, keyboard, mouse pad, headphones, and X-Box gamepad if they wish, according to McPheters.

The gaming tournament works in perfect unison with the addition of DWC’s new major in Gaming, Robotic and Design in the Fall of 2006. The College also offers disciplines in computer science and information systems.

Daniel Webster College provides undergraduate and graduate programs to traditional and non-traditional students from its Nashua and Portsmouth campuses in a wide breadth of professional areas, including aeronautic and mechanical engineering, aviation flight operations, air traffic management, computer science, business and management, and social science.
