"Heroes, Saints, Catholic School Girls, and Other Myths"
Art Exhibit Comes
to DWC
Artist's reception Friday, March 24, 5-8 pm
at the Eaton-Richmond Center Gallery
(Nashua) - “Heroes, Saints, Catholic
School Girls, and Other Myths,” a show of pastel drawings by Milford
artist Jennie Sweo will be on display at the Eaton-Richmond Center (ERC)
Gallery on the campus of Daniel Webster College beginning March 24th and
running through April 8th.
An artist’s reception will kick off the showing Friday, March 24 from
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the gallery, located on the ERC second floor.
Sweo describes herself as a narrative artist. “The visual telling of a
story has always fascinated me,” said Sweo, who sees using large scales
as important in her work. “I work large because I like the ability to
flatten perspective, yet still have the integrity of the story to hold
the composition together,” she adds. “To this end I find it important to
focus on one or two characters in a painting and let the story revolve
around them, so the story is glimpsed at from that character’s
perspective. Everything a main character would see or sense is what I
try to visually represent in my paintings.”
“I paint the attitudes and relationships of the main character,” Sweo
adds. “This helps me to define the colors and shapes that surround the
character.”
