Daniel Webster College seeks to sponsor charter school
The proposed Academy of Science and Design would accommodate 450 students in grades seven through 12. Admission would be open to students from any community and there would be no tuition.
Charter schools operate with public money, but with less regulation than typical public schools. The state Board of Education must approve the charter request. New Hampshire currently has seven charter schools.
Matora Fiorey, one of the project's coordinators, says juniors and seniors would select an area of focus, everything from aeronautics and aviation to architecture, engineering and computer science.
If approved, officials hope to open the school by fall 2007.
